SEEDING

Sustainable Stewards uses a premium northern grass seed blend to help rejuvenate your lawn through yearly overseeding or restore areas that have lost grass or have thinned out.  Sustainable Stewards offers two seeding services which are listed below.

Overseeding

Overseeding is the process of performing a broadcast application of our premium northern grass seed blend to the entire turf or lawn.  This is a great way to improve the density of your lawn, add turfgrass varieties, enhance lawn color, fill in thin spots, and increase root ecosystem.  To optimize seed-to-soil contact and germination rates during overseeding we highly recommend Aeration, Dethatch, Weed Control, and Fertilizer to prep your lawn for the best results!  **Sustainable Stewards does over compost top dressing options for turf in need of a complete renovation.**

Patch Seeding

Watering

Sometimes thinning grass can turn into bare spots that can be addressed through patch seeding.

Sustainable Stewards starts by cultivating the affected area to loosen any compacted soil.  We apply a fresh layer of nutrient rich soil and rake in a first layer of premium northern grass seed.  After the first layer of seed is sowed we then apply a second top layer of premium northern grass seed.  To finish off the process we lay mulched straw to cover the seeding from birds, wind damage, and retain moisture.

A key component to a successful seeding program is maintaining a water regiment during the first 3-4 weeks.  Please follow the recommended watering scheduled for optimal results.  During this time period only a shallow watering is needed to keep the seed moist which will lead to germination.  Watering needs to be done between 4am – 9am  and/or around dusk.  Please inquire about irrigation solutions with your local Steward!

Week 1:  Water 2x per day AM & Dusk.

Weeks 2-3: Water 1x per day AM.

Week 4: Water 2-3x per week.  Start deep watering.
