  • What do I need to get my lawn care service started?
    Get in touch with a local Steward via online contact form, phone call, or email. Sustainable Stewards will send a local Steward to the property to discuss services and walk the property. A free quote will be discussed or sent via email. Once a customer wants to move forward with services, a service agreement will need to be signed and returned before any services are performed. Sustainable Stewards will contact you with mowing schedule or date of service to be performed.
  • What are your requirements before each service?
    Sustainable Stewards wants each and every service to go as smooth as possible which requires some checks by the property owner before service: Lawn or turf is clear of obstructions (sticks, kid and dog toys, rocks, dog poop, etc.) Discuss any sensitive areas & property lines with your local Steward Gates need to be unlocked Animals must be out of the service area If pesticides are applied by another company, Sustainable Stewards require a 24 hour notice of application. ** Sustainable Stewards does our best to close each gate after service! Please double check all gates are closed and latched post service for extra protection ** If any special requests please make sure to discuss this with Sustainable Stewards,
  • What does each service include?
    Each electric lawn service includes: Mow, Trim, Edge, and Clean-Up.
  • How often does my lawn need cut?
    Regular lawn mowing is a must to keep your lawn looking its best! Overgrown lawns can create an environment that is suitable for weeds/pests and can be costly down the road to get your lawn back on track. Sustainable Stewards recommends mowing a lawn once per week on average. During peak growing & rain seasons your lawn may need up to 2x mows per week depending on growth rate. Your local Steward will discuss if 2x/week is necessary. During dry season it may only need mowed once every other week.
  • Do you perform commercial services?
    Sustainable Stewards performs both residential and commercial services!
  • Is all your lawn care equipment electric?
    Sustainable Stewards uses all electric lawn care equipment when it comes to lawn care maintenance. Our equipment is quiet and provides a quality cut each and every service.
  • What if my lawn needs to skip a mow?
    Sustainable Stewards will set up a mowing schedule that usually equates to 1x/week on average. It is the responsibility of customer to contact your local Steward at sustainablestewards@outlook.com or 5633401347 if service is not needed during a given week. You will be credited on the following month's invoice for the skipped service.
  • What length do you cut grass?
    To maintain a healthy lawn Sustainable Stewards cuts grass at a length of 3 to 3 1/3 inches. If length desired is out of this range contact your local steward to discuss options.
  • What if the weather isn't suitable for a mow on my scheduled day?
    Sustainable Stewards will always aim to mow on your set service day but sometimes weather impacts service. Your service may be moved to earlier or later in the day to avoid inclement weather. We may also exercise moving your service date to the day before or after the normal date due to weather. Sustainable Stewards will ALWAYS communicate schedule changes due to weather.
  • Help! My lawn is overgrown.
    Lawns can get out of hand quickly especially during the growing season. A lawn is considered overgrown at 6 inches. Depending on the degree of overgrowth will effect the rate at which the lawn is quoted for an overgrowth service. In some instances, clippings will need to be bagged and removed to protect the health of your lawn. This is considered a yard cleanup and will be quoted appropriately. Your lawn may look "choppy" after an overgrown lawn is mowed. Consistent mowing over the following couple weeks will even out the length of the grass to make it look more uniform.
  • Can you mow when the grass is wet?
    Sustainable Stewards does our best to avoid wet grass but during the wet season it is inevitable.
  • What is Eco Weed & Feed?
    Eco Weed and Feed is a natural 6-in-1 product that covers: Pre and Post Emergent Weed Control, Fertilizer, Fungus Control, Moss and Algae Control.
  • Is Eco Weed & Feed people and pet friendly?
    Yes (Per supplier website). It is also safe to use around environmentally sensitive areas.
  • What is the application schedule for Eco Weed & Feed?
    Eco Weed and Feed is applied 4x per year. 2x applications in the spring and 2x applications in the fall. Each application for each season is 3-4 weeks apart.
  • What are the active compounds in the Eco Weed & Feed?
    Our Eco Weed & Feed utilizes iron salt phototoxicity technology for weed/fungus control and soy proteins for natural fertilizer.
  • What is the reentry time to my lawn for Eco Weed & Feed?
    3 hours after application or until lawn is dry.
  • Does the Eco Weed & Feed or the Organic Fertilizer burn lawns?
    No. These products do not burn lawns.
  • How eco-friendly is your Organic Fertilizer?
    Sustainable Stewards uses granular fertilizer that is derived from organic matter from wastewater vs synthetic made lawn chemicals. Adding organic matter to your lawn invites microorganisms which creates a thriving lawn eco-system to maintain healthy grass. Your lawn can be enjoyed by family, friends, and pets immediately after application!
  • How long do I have to wait to enter my lawn after an Organic Fertilizer application?
    Your lawn can be enjoyed immediately following an application.
  • What is the Organic Fertilizer schedule?
    Sustainable Stewards applies Organic Fertilizer around the manufacturer recommended schedule. Memorial Day 4th of July Labor Day Halloween
  • What type of weeds does corn gluten meal pre-emergent address?
    Sustainable Stewards uses a granular corn gluten meal pre-emergent weed control. This will only address weeds that are seedlings or ungerminated seed so timing is key to application. Corn gluten meal hinders root growth at a young stage. This is a great application to controlling crabgrass, dandelions, barnyard grass, and much more!
  • How long after corn gluten meal preemergent application can I lay down seed?
    4-6 Weeks.
  • What is Natural Weed Control?
    Natural Weed Control is a liquid iron salt that is mixed with water. The mixture works by creating iron phototoxicity to broadleaf weeds (dandelions, clover, creeping charlie, and more) effectively killing weeds - not turf.
  • What will I see after a Natural Weed Control application?
    Dying weeds can be seen within hours after application. Weeds will turn a dark brown or black.
  • What types of weeds does Natura Weed Control address?
    Fiesta weed control is a broadleaf weed herbicide which helps control & eliminate weeds such as dandelions, white clover, creeping charlie, and much more.
  • How long do I have to wait after Natural Weed Control application to reenter my lawn?
    Your lawn can be enjoyed immediately after the application has dried.
  • How long do I have to wait to water my lawn after a Natural Weed Control application?
    4 hours is recommended before irrigating a lawn after a Natural Weed Control application.
  • How long do I have to wait to seed after a Natural Weed Control application?
    Manufacturer recommends recommends waiting 24 hours after application to apply any new grass seed to turf.
  • Do I need to water any of these products in?
    No.
  • When is the best time to aerate?
    Aeration is best performed during growing seasons which are spring and/or fall. It is good practice to aerate at least once per year to maintain healthy lawn turf. Heavy traffic areas and compacted soils may need to be performed twice a year. Aeration is highly recommended when overseeding to help create soil to seed contact and encourage deep root growth.
  • How often do I need to dethatch?
    Dethatch should be performed once a year to help maintain a healthy thatch layer. Collected lawn thatch can be left on the property or hauled away by Sustainable Stewards for a compost fee. See Dethatch section for more information.
  • When is the best time to seed?
    Fall is the best time to seed because of less competition for weeds and warmer ground temps. Seeding can be done in the spring time as well but may produce a lower germination rate.
  • What are your requirements for aeration?
    Sustainable Stewards uses a tow-behind core aerator that will require an access point of 43 inches or wider (gates). Is is best practice to water your lawn 24 hours before aeration in order to maximize aeration depth.
  • How often do I need to water my new grass seed?
    Watering is crucial to establishing grass seed. Watering should mostly be done in the morning before 10am, except during Week 1 of watering in which you want to water around dusk as well. Below is the recommended water schedule: Week 1: 2x Daily AM & PM Week 2 & 3: 1x Daily AM Week 4 & After: 2-3x Weekly (Depending on rainfall)
  • When do you bill for services?
    Sustainable Stewards bills on the 1st of the month for services that are going to be rendered during that month. Example 1: If your electric mow service is scheduled for Tuesdays, Sustainable Stewards will count the number of Tuesdays in a given month and bill on the 1st of the month. Example 2: If you are on a scheduled program (Essential, Advanced, or Pro Sustainable Lawn) billing will also be on the 1st of the month for the services going to be performed for that given month. If a specific service is performed during the month as an individual service customers will be billed directly after service.
  • What form of payment do you take?
    Sustainable Stewards bills securely through Quickbooks online payments. The invoice will go directly to the email provided. Please check spam folders if you cannot locate email invoice. Online payments carry a 3.5% convenience fee. Other forms of payment will need to be discussed with your local Steward on an individual basis.
  • What are Sustainable Stewards cancelation policies?
    You can cancel at any time as long as payments are up to date.
